What is The Wiki Way? It is the title of an excellent book by Bo Leuf and Ward Cunningham about the technological and cultural issues of collaboration on the web.
The very first Wiki was created by Ward Cunningham, to be "the simplest online database that could possibly work". Wiki (according to the book) is a Hawaiian word for "fast" or "speedy". In this case, web user's supply the data by editting webpages, or creating new webpages, all of which occurs tres vite or very speedily -- and suddenly the web isn't a window "out there" but a playground "right here".
The original Wiki site, is at: (
WikiWikiWeb )
Twiki is a version of the original Wiki, more oriented towards business collaboration (ie it has stronger security and version control than the original Wiki).
How Twiki technology is being used can be seen at: (
TWikiSuccessStories )
There is a website supporting The Wiki Way Book at: (
Wiki.org )
If imitation is a compliment, then the original Wiki site is very well complemented by various wiki clones which take the basic concept and transmorgificate it to different software langauges, and for different purposes. As noted, this site is built in one of those clones, Twiki.
As a final example of how the wiki way (not the book, but the idea) is being used in the world of learning, take a look at: (
MySwiki )
And there, you have a few leads -- it's really not worth talking about "a way", anyway -- it's best to try out, use, and explore.
Please feel free to play and explore, create and contribute on this site, and help it develop its own wiki way and flavour.
